This is a charcoal and pastel drawing of the Tommy Gibbons and Jack Sharkey heavyweight championship bout during the "Golden Era of Boxing." Sharkey won the heavyweight title. I was an amateur boxer many years ago. I currently help young fighters train for upcoming bouts. Boxing is a sport that requires resilience. Young fighters have to prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally. Virtually all fighters have to overcome fear and self-doubt. Successful fighters are fighters who can come back from setbacks and losses. Life is full of setbacks and losses. Sharkey overcame the blistering heat and was victorious.
